Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, curious, and loving students from a small community. They learn best from engaging, hands-on activities that allow them to be leaders in their own learning. Every day, they come into school eager to learn and ready to tackle the everyday rigor of school.
The students in my class are from low income families and many are English language learners or have parents at home that do not speak any English.
The most important part of their day is at school when it comes to learning, and I want to make sure we have all the resources needed in order to succeed in their foundational education that will be provided in my classroom.
Each student truly loves learning, but there are needs that some have that require specialized seating and hands-on activities. They are an incredible group of students who could benefit so much from having enough supplies in order to participate in group work, where they thrive. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to help the students with meeting their unique needs.
My Project
All of my students work well with hands-on learning. We work for one hour a day in rotating small groups and these products will help them to create a meaningful learning experience while having fun. Having these items are important to creating the foundations of literacy and mathematics.
Each student will benefit greatly from having the opportunity to work in small groups.
The opportunity gives them not only literacy skills, but also the ability to work on their social/emotional skills. By providing these things, we are contributing to the whole child development.
The students also struggle with writing in the classroom. They are still learning how to create letters in an appropriate size, so the paper will help them with creating letters in an appropriate size and using correct positioning. Some of my students struggle to sit in their seat at all times. The balancing balls and seat rubber bands will help them exert their excess energy while working. By doing this, they will be able to learn more easily.
