My Students

Hello, I am a very highly motivated teacher of 4-5 year old kindergarten children in a Title 1 school in New York. My school has been working extremely hard throughout the years to ensure that all students succeed academically and emotionally.

My students always start the school year eager to learn and enjoy coming to school each day.

One thing that I like to do each year is taking pictures, with disposable cameras, of the students as they are learning and completing projects and assignments. I print them and hang them all around the room for them to enjoy. They enjoy seeing themselves being a creative and important part of their learning in the classroom through these pictures. We save all the pictures and at the end of the year we make individual photo albums, or yearbooks, for each student to take home. This gives them the opportunity to remember and look back on an extremely important year of school. This is important for them because, for many, this is their first experience in school.

My Project

My students would love to be able to take pictures with a digital camera where they are able to see the pictures beforehand. Also, because of budget cuts and tightening budgets, there is no money to continue to buy disposable cameras and have the pictures developed. The use of a digital camera would give the students a real opportunity to enjoy the picture taking process and see the pictures as they are taking them. It would also cut down tremendously on the cost. Having photos of themselves being productive students day after day would help build self-esteem and confidence that will follow them throughout the continuing grades.

Please, I know that it takes a special person to donate to a group of children that you don't know, but my students deserve an opportunity to see first hand, through pictures, how productive and successful they can be academically and emotionally.
