This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Gross motor skills are important for overall physical development, posture, coordination and balance. Learning these basic movements help children move from one position to another in a smooth and efficient manner. They are also important for sports and leisure activities. As a child develops gross motor skills they are able to move more confidently and with greater control. This increases their stamina and agility, enabling them to explore the world around them more freely.
Many of the children in our classroom, do not have access to tricycles or scooters that would enable them to gain confidence in these skills.
By helping us provide these materials for our kindergarten students, this will give them another possibility to gain gross motor skills to help them grow and learn. Many of these students do not have the economic advantage for parents to purchase these items in their home. So, giving them the chance to use a tricycle and scooter at school would be greatly appreciated not only for their gross motor development but for the sheer joy of playing outside in a safe environment! The student's will be able to ride these when student's go outside during recess time in the morning and in the afternoon.
