Kindergarten Literacy Listening Center

My students need a literacy listening center including a variety of texts, a CD & Casette player, and headphones.

My Students

By the end of kindergarten, students are expected to be reading at least two lines of text. By providing students with plenty of opportunities to be exposed to more books and words we will be able to meet this goal.

At my school, more than 75% of the students receive free or reduced lunch.

Many of our students do not have books at home that they have access to. It is important for our young learners to have access to books everyday in the classroom where it can be provided. I currently have one CD player that is accessible to a few students a day with a very limited book and CD selection. This classroom also reaches exceptional students who will benefit in ways such as speech, language, fluency, and higher order thinking skills.

My Project

With the resources provided through this donation, at least 6 students will be able to use this listening center daily. It will be a part of our Daily 5 (our reading section of our day) in which the students can choose the center they would like to go to. This center will accommodate two students at a time in which the students will be able to choose which book and CD they would like to read first. I am hoping to provide students with more opportunities to have fun reading through this center.

Most students this year entered the classroom in August knowing only a few letters and had very limited experience reading a book.

With this literacy center, children can have fun reading and learning.
