My Students
My students are amazing! Despite their many struggles, they come to school with bright smiles and ready to learn. Many of the students in my class are learning English. This makes reading and writing in English on grade level very difficult. However, they work very hard, and I work very hard, and almost every child in my class is on grade level!
Although they are faced with incredible academic challenges, they are also a tremendous joy and blessing in my life.
Teaching students who are in poverty, at risk academically, and who have special needs is very challenging, but I would not even consider working with another demographic. These students need me, and, to be perfectly honest, I need them, too! Our school is a Title I school which is 100% free lunch. This means every family at our school lives in poverty. They do not have money for school supplies. My students deserve the best, and I do whatever it takes to fill the void in their lives both materialistically and emotionally. I love my kids.
My Project
These items will help me engage students. They will make the students excited about learning and thrilled to come to school. The dry erase markers help me hold each student accountable. They also help me identify struggling students. We have some markers in the classroom, but they are old and dry.
Many times, I buy supplies out of my own budget.
I will never let my students go without, but I can’t always manage to afford the fun stuff like clay, paint and glitter. Kindergartners learn best through exploration and play. With these new and exciting supplies such as glue and colored pencils, I can make learning fun for them as it should be!
