This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am blessed to able to teach energetic kindergarten students. I want to bring back play into our kindergarten classroom by providing a true kitchen center for my students. I was able to find a free play kitchen through a community page. However, we don't have any play utensils, plates, bowls, food, etc. My students love role playing, and I believe that play is an EXCELLENT way for children to learn how to be a respectful person.

Kitchen centers offer so many opportunities for kindergarten learners in not only ELA and math but social emotional and interpersonal skills.

Students can write about their cooking process, favorite foods, create restaurant menus, etc. They can practice one-to-one correspondence, addition, and subtraction to name a few math skills. Children learn social norms by being able to interact and have conversions with each other. It is amazing to see how kids can learn to solve problems, delegate jobs, and work together when they play together.

I cannot wait to see this project fulfilled and enjoyed by my precious kinder babies. Thank you so much for considering our project!
