Kindergarten Kids Learn How to Read Using Augmented Reality!
Help me give my students "The Letters Alive Program" that provides access to the advanced technology of augmented reality. What an awesome way to learn how to read!
I teach 22 Kindergarten students in a small, Illinois town. They are the most amazing, passionate, little learners I've ever met! They come to school every day ready to learn and eager to be the best little people they can be. They will go wherever I lead them. We are accepting of mistakes that we all make in our classroom, both academically and behaviorally. We even tell each other thank you for being brave and letting us learn from your mistakes. They cheer for each other, learn from each other, and have become great little teammates. I'm very blessed and lucky to be their teacher this year.
However, with technology today, I find myself constantly wondering if I'm teaching them the best way I know how.
They are hands-on learners and if they are touching something, they are learning from it! They are little movers, and I would LOVE to get more interactive technology in their hands to help them strengthen their reading skills. This software program allows my students to hear, see, touch, build, and speak while enjoying a positive and engaging experience using animals and science!
My Project
The donations to this project will be used to purchase a reading software program called Letters alive(r) that incorporates evidence-based best practices to teach early literacy skills. It incorporates animals and various science themes which little kids love!
I want to use and build on their knowledge of technology (at such a young age) in a meaningful and purposeful way.
This is a hands-on, interactive, and engaging way to help my students build literacy skills necessary to learn how to read. The augmented reality shows animals in their natural habitats and sparks that curiosity and joy that we want every student to have.
This program will appeal to a broad range of learning styles and abilities. The learning kit includes a full-year supplemental curriculum aligned to kindergarten state standards with 26 alphabet cards, 97 sight word cards, and 84 word family cards that spring to life in 3D through the advanced 3D technology known as augmented reality. What an amazing experience for my class!
The Alphabet rug will be used with iPads and the Letter Alive Journal will be used for each child.
