My students need butterfly life cycle models, giant insect stamps, and year's subscription of Time For Kids to learn about insects, butterflies, and other Science and Social Science topics.
"Learning is more effective when it is an active rather than a passive process" - Euripides. This is especially true in kindergarten! So much of the building blocks of education that are acquired in kindergarten are more easily learned by exposure to hands-on activities.
My students are just beginning their educational journey and are so eager to learn.
To see the transformation in them from August to the end June is so rewarding. Our school is located in an urban neighborhood and has a high poverty rate. Funding in our district, as in most others, is being stretched very thin. Staff is being cut and supply budgets are very lean, however the expectations are higher than ever. I want to make sure that my students have the best opportunity to flourish in their time with me.
My Project
I am actually requesting 3 sets of everything, so that all 3 kindergarten classes in our building will have the same wonderful experience of watching the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. By helping to fund this project, our kindergarten classes will have additional hands-on materials to be able to see the stages of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly and other insects. The life cycle models will be used this spring for real life science lessons. I would love to have the students see the stages and transformation of a caterpillar/butterfly to build an understanding of the life cycles. This will also coordinate with the theme of a scheduled classroom visitor and our field trip to Phipps conservatory at the end of the year.
By supporting this project, you will provide hands-on and written materials for our students to learn and explore insects, life cycles, and other science topics.
My hope is for generous donors and quick funding to bring these wonderful materials to my students. Any donation you make will help us reach our goal and will be very appreciated.
