Kindergarten Exploration

My students need a marble run to explore our science unit on force and motion. They will use the crayons to write in their science journals.

My Students

Our classroom needs to be based on hands-on experiences. We will introduce the concepts and practice by using the marble run. The children will record what we are learning using the triangular crayons in their science journal.

Our students come from a diverse background of educational experiences.

Most students are excited to learn and some come to us with little experience in an educational environment. We are a neighborhood school with strong family support. Our kindergarten program is a half-day. Kindergarten children learn through exploration and these materials will engage the students in a discovery about force and motion.

My Project

We will begin our introduction to these materials by reading the books about motion. Storybooks are a great way to give students the context for making connections with scientific ideas. Once we have discussed the books, students, driven by their own natural curiosity, will build and explore motion using the marble run sets. We will utilize the triangle crayons for recording our discoveries about motion.

Our kindergarten classrooms have over twenty children.

Once students have been introduced to the scientific ideas related to motion, they need to have access to a sufficient amount of materials for their independent and collaborative exploration of movement.
