My students need wipe-off boards to practice writing. They also need a drying rack to dry art projects, and sturdy paper trays to store their writing workshop folders.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine walking into a kindergarten class where students are engrossed in painting. Now, imagine seeing 29 beautiful masterpieces covering shelves, books, and even part of the floor to dry.
This is the reality of our class. We are missing basic supplies that are essential to a primary classroom.
I have yet to meet my students this year, but I am confident that they will be kind, creative and eager to learn.
Our school is a tight-knit community that values academic excellence and social justice. We are located in a high-poverty area. Over 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced price lunch. We are diverse. Our students are Hispanic, African-American, Filipino, Middle-Eastern, Pacific Islander, Caucasian, and Asian. Our students speak many different languages, including Spanish, Tagalog, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Hindi. 53% speak a language other than English at home. Our school is full of warm and loving students, teachers, and staff members. Our mission is to create life-long, independent learners.
My Project
I am requesting a few classroom basics to help get our year off to a great start. They include an art drying rack, a class set of wipe-off boards, sturdy paper bins, and felt-tip pens.
A project drying rack is essential to an art enriched classroom. It will allow my students to participate in more painting and wet art activities, and I will not have to allocate large amounts of shelf and floor space to dry our projects as I have done so in the past.
Wipe-off boards are very important tools that allow students to practice academic skills. They can practice writing and penmanship, complete guided math lessons at the rug, and free draw. In the past, I have borrowed these boards from generous teachers, but due to enrollment increases I will have to give many of them up.
The sturdy bins will be used for paper and folder storage. They are student-friendly and are large enough to store our writing workshop folders, which is essential for our balanced literacy program.
My classroom will now contain many basic supplies found in classrooms across the country.
It will be more organized, and therefore more conducive to student learning. My students will be able to participate in a larger variety of enjoyable activities with the addition of these supplies.
