Kindergarten Children Need Hands-On Materials to Support Learning!

My Students

Laughing, giggling and happy, our children are bright and inquisitive.

Forty percent of our new students arrive without knowing any English.

Our students need a wide variety of hands-on, authentic learning opportunities that support our curriculum. Kindergarten is often their very first school experience. The students spend more awake hours at school than they do at home. The learning areas in my classroom are intentionally planned to build learning stamina. As the year progresses, children spend longer periods of time completing differentiated activities in classroom learning areas.

Learning centers are an important way for small groups of children to complete academic tasks, work on individualized and challenging projects and improve social and emotional skills.

We need consumable materials to populate learning areas. The expense for these consumables is not sustainable and there we are given only $200.00 for these supplies for the entire year. Authentic learning is an important way to extend learning experiences which, in turn, will build academic endurance.

My Project

Kindergarten children need to design, build and create as they learn. We need paper for writing and drawing, paints and brushes, glue and a classroom drying rack for their creations.

Children at this age need hands-on materials to stay engaged and build stamina.

To support learning, my students need to extend curriculum activities to include art, writing, and science. The children need consumable supplies on a regular basis and they go through these supplies quickly. When children create and design they develop a deeper comprehension of the curriculum and the skills that need to be mastered. Science, design/engineering, and art provide opportunities for more authentic learning.
