Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten. These words written by Robert Fulgham are so true, but there is one thing my students don't get to experience and that is creating Art in the classroom. Due to extreme budget cuts there is no money to buy the supplies needed.
I am lucky enough to teach Kindergarten to 25 of the most amazing children.
My students live in a low socio-economic community and many of them live in multi-family homes in order to make ends meet. Many of my students don't have access to crayons let alone other types of Art medium. I want to be able to give my students a creative outlet. Kindergarten is so demanding now and my students need another way in which to express themselves.
My Project
We are requesting Art supplies like crayons, colored pencils, and chalk that we can use all year and beyond. The art supplies will be shared among the students so not only are they creating, but working together by sharing and collaborating. We will incorporate these supplies not only in our Art time, but they will be used daily in our Workshop and Writing times as well. This project and these supplies will give them a chance to nourish another part of their academic world and help to nurture the artist that is within all of us.

I have vivid memories of creating Art and watching my teacher hang up my art work in the class. I want my students to be able to create the same kind of memories and inspire in them a creative outlet that they have not been exposed to yet. By obtaining these art supplies I will be able to tap into a part of them that has not been nourished yet and help nurture future artists.
