Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very eager learners. They come to school every day with an exciting thirst for knowledge, and are eager and enthusiastic to engage in their learning. Most of my students are of Hispanic backgrounds and most have recently relocated in our community. Some of my students are being exposed to English for the very first time. We are a Title I school. This means that most of the students in our school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Several come from broken homes, have recently relocated to our school community after natural disasters and have experienced being homeless or having to share a home with other families. Regardless of their hardships, my students love to engage in their learning with the use of technology, but most do not have access to technology at home. They need all the help they can get to aid them in their academic journey and help them excel in all their learning endeavors.

My Project

My students are very eager, active, and enthusiastic learners. Most of them do not have access to technology at home given their economic status. Several students have parents that are poor, struggling to make ends meet or are homeless. It is my goal to provide my students with a technology/laptop center within our classroom. Our school district provides a multitude of online educational programs/resources. I wish to be able to incorporate these resources in our everyday instruction and I'd like to be able to provide my homeless students with laptops. It is my goal not only to create an in-class technology center but to allow students experiencing homelessness or just simply those who do not have access to technology at home, to take laptops home on a rotating basis in existing backpacks. This will allow my students to engage in learning activities outside of the classroom.

Additionaly, the laptops will be used in the technology center where the students will work in groups, in pairs or individually on a variety of class projects.

This will allow students whose families cannot afford technology at home to participate in the use of these resources regardless of their homelessness or inability to afford technology. Our current computers are very old and are always breaking down. These laptops will be a great addition to our classroom and will promote more technological involvement.
