My Students

My kindergarten students are eager to learn and curious about life. They are always ready to learn something new and persevere when learning gets tricky.

Their creativity and excitement inspires me as a teacher!

It is always a pleasure guiding these new learners as they navigate the changes happening around them. Students often work in partnerships and groups and it is important that they are able to share their ideas and feelings when learning.

My goal is to make learning fun as students become writers, readers, mathematicians, and scientists. Teaching social and emotional skills will help these learners as they grow and adapt to a new school and new friends.

My Project

While academics is crucial in the kindergarten classroom, an important component of kindergarten is social emotional learning. Kindergarten is where students build a strong foundation to become life-long learners. It is difficult to learn when you do not have the skills to focus, listen, or manage emotions. It is important that students learn how to manage a myriad of emotions and peer interactions. My students would benefit greater from a social-emotional curriculum to reach this goal.

The Second Step curriculum teaches students many social emotional skills such as listening, calming down, and using kind words.

They learn how to notice how another person is feeling and develop empathy. This engaging curriculum teaches these skills with music, puppets, games, and stories. Students will act out scenarios, learn songs, and talk about managing strong feelings. Learning these skills will promote school success by giving students the tools to self-regulate in a safe, supportive, and loving environment.

As students learn to manage their emotions, they are better able to make responsible choices. They build positive relationships with peers and adults and able to succeed in school and daily life. Social-emotional skills are extremely important and any donation would be greatly appreciated!
