Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the mindfulness and yoga teacher at my school and I teach mostly students with special needs. My students come from all over the world and many languages are spoken in my school. Many of the students come from single-parent family and some live in shelters. We are a school with a supportive administration and awesome staff, many who volunteer their time to provide special events and programs for our students and families. Including myself, I provide with my own funds materials and supplies to teach my students mindfulness and yoga techniques. However, I could use support to provide my students with the materials that would improve their skills and practice.
My Project
My students will better understand the correct form for each yoga pose with the use of yoga props (blocks and straps) and become more aligned, balanced and connected to their body. Many students are performing the poses incorrectly and I am limited on correction and adjustments I can make to 30+ students at one time without the support of yoga props. Therefore with the appropriate yoga supplies and props, I can utilize and teach my students to perform the poses correctly. Once students understand the correct form for each pose, then a connection can be made between mind, Breath and body.
