Help me give my students UNICEF Kidpower Bands to encourage them be active, track their steps and earn rice packs to feed malnourished children.
I teach second grade at an older, urban school where many of my students are the children of deployed military personnel. All of them are eligible for free breakfast and lunch but we are not a Title I school and as a result, we lack the resources and opportunities of many other schools. Many of my wonderful students are deemed at-risk. Nine of them are over a 1.5 years below grade level. They all want to learn and they work very hard.
My students attend school in one of the most multicultural districts in the United States and many of them are English Language Learners who have recently arrived in this country.
They often do not have pencils, crayons or books. They generally do not participate in after school activities and seldom go on field trips because they cannot afford the fees. School is everything to them.
It was Coach John Wooden who said be true to yourself and make each day a masterpiece; help others and make friendship a fine art. I want my 2nd graders to learn how to make each day a masterpiece as they work together to help others. When I learned about the UNICEF Kid Power bands I knew they were exactly what my class needed.
I am asking for UNICEF kid power bands so my students can "step up", increase their activity level and unlock food packets for severely malnourished children around the world.
My students are learning to care for others via our SEL curriculum. They are also learning to make healthy choices and try to incorporate movement and exercise into their daily routine. The UNICEF kid power bands will become an integral part of our day. I plan to teach about nutrition, world hunger and UNICEF.
My students cannot afford the bands and I do not have the money to be able to purchase one for each of them so I am appealing to Donors to help my students.
My kids need your help!
