I teach 1st grade at a high-needs school and my students are the best part of my job. Each day, my students put a smile on my face with their big hearts and positive attitudes.
Though many of my students have struggles in their lives, they show me their determination to learn by showing up to school every day and trying their best.
Each student of mine is very different from the next. They have different talents, interests, hobbies, strengths, families, and even live in very different environments. One thing they all have in common is that they are kind, generous, and caring.
My Project
Stability balls in place of chairs are the best way to increase movement in the classroom. It is a difficult job transitioning back into the school year from summer break, where bed times are often non-existent and the longest the children sit down is a 5 minute car ride to the park. This transition has taken a toll on my little ones, and students have been struggling to stay awake, pay attention, and stay in their chair. Movement in a classroom is important to keep my little 6 year old students awake and engaged during lessons. Sitting on a stability ball opposed to a chair requires engaged muscles which increases brain functioning, which also increases learning! It also improves posture, strengthens their core, keeps them focused, and improves gross and fine motor skills. My students need your help to make the transition to a more exciting and effective classroom!
