Kids Are Eager With Ipads!

My students need access to 4 iPads and cases. Many of our curriculum sources have application technology to give students another way to learn.

My Students

It's great to see students get excited about reading, writing, and arithmetic! That's what I love about ipads in the classroom. They are portable and easy to use at a desk or in a small group around a table. I wish everyone could see their faces light up when it's "their" turn to use the ipad.

I have 25 students in third grade.

There are a variety of learning styles and abilities which is why ipads are so useful in the classroom. I can use them for quiet work at an individual student's desk or with a small group around a table. Students can work alone or with a partner. There are applications for students who struggle or who are English Language Learners. I have students who need help or need to be challenged. The activities on the ipad allow me to tailor assignments to their learning levels. Third grade is a fun time to discover and explore. When I create a folder of math or science activities, they are thrilled to have choices and an opportunity to think creatively. We all wish we had smaller class sizes or another teacher in the room. Engaging activities can be the next best thing!

My Project

My students are very excited whenever I bring out an ipad. I can use it with my whole class by hooking it up to my projector and sharing apps or videos with the class. There are many books that are leveled readers connected to our Houghton Mifflin reading series. I can let a small group read together, or let individual students read a book at their own level. I have also found apps that allow for problem solving in math as well as skill based activities. The Common Core standards are requiring much more problem solving. Students enjoy working in small groups or with a partner to solve difficult math activities. I have also found excellent science apps to enhance our physics and earth science units. Visuals are exciting!

Our classroom would benefit from enough ipads to have students work in small groups.

I know that each student won't have their own, but what a delight to see them excited and engaged! The ipad can cross all curriculum areas. I wish everyone could see how the classroom buzzes with technology! What a great opportunity for those who don't have the technology at home and what a great tool for teachers to use!
