it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My goal is to acquire a subscription to Scholastic News for all of the second-grade students at our school for the 2023-2024 school year. A subscription to Scholastic News will provide students with additional opportunities to read non-fiction texts in order to connect with their community and the world around them. Scholastic News (online access included) is a fun way for students to access magazines to increase their knowledge across multiple content areas. With these articles in hand, students are encouraged to make new discoveries as they read about amazing animals, famous authors, worldwide traditions, and more! The videos that accompany each article are helpful in further engaging students by providing additional visuals when topics are unfamiliar or uncommon, especially for many of our second language learners.
Keeping students up to date on current events is crucial and Scholastic News is the perfect kid-friendly way to do that!
With a yearly subscription, each student gets their own magazine article to read and complete in class. Students can then take their articles home to reread and/or share with families. Our current students are greatly benefiting from Scholastic News - it is clearly evident that exposure to these fascinating topics boosts not only their knowledge and curiosity about the world but also their developing reading skills. My second-grade colleague and I would both like to continue this again next year for the incoming second-graders. Thank you so much for helping us achieve this for our students!
