My students need keyboards for the iPads we have in our class. Keyboards will allow my students to type their essays and practice typing to help them have the computer skills necessary for success.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor of being a fourth grade ELA teacher in District of Columbia public schools. Our students are kind, hard working, humorous, and energetic. Many of our students come to school being survivors of trauma. Their resiliency is awe inspiring. About half of our student population are English language learners and 99% of our student population revives free or reduced-price lunch.
Our students are creative and clever scholars who have all the potential in the world and a whole school of adults supporting them in their efforts to succeed.
Our students have lived through some unfortunate and unimaginable hardships. But, it is our responsibility as educators to provide them a world class education from the moment they step in the door. We strive to instill independence, self-efficacy, self-esteem and strategic thinking in every student.
My Project
It is important that students learn to type properly and efficiently. Typing is something most adults do on a daily basis, so why not help students improve at this? We are lucky to have iPads in our classroom and in order to enhance their utility we need keyboards. Students will have more opportunity to type their written work with these keyboards. This project will also allow for more regular typing practice on computer programs. My students will be able to become better at the important skill of typing. Access to keyboards will help them develop an important technology based skill that they will be able to carry with them for the rest of their life.
