Keyboards for Kids: Empowering Music Learners in the Real World
Help me give my students this keyboard lab. This basic keyboard lab includes keyboards and headphones. Headphones are vital for students to be able to play independently, and to accommodate sound sensitive students. Stands to come later.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a K-5 school in Washington state. In our school 80% of our student body receives free or reduced price lunch. About 60% of our students are Latino, with many students still learning English. Although there is needs based funding for the music program, there is no guaranteed spending for music annually. The music classroom has the most basic instrumentarium and I would very much like to equip it with rich and varied equipment in order to meet our student's diverse needs.
Keyboards allow me to reach a primary goal with my students, which is for them to feel empowered to play and participate in musical activities in the world.
I would very much like to have enough keyboards that students could play with partners. Keyboards are one of the most common instruments found out in students' communities. They are also an excellent tool for teaching music theory, timbre, and composition.
My Project
We are requesting a basic keyboard lab, headphones and headphone splitter. Keyboards help students meet the National Standards in Music in the areas of performing, creating, responding, and connecting to music.
Keyboards can be used for:
-Learning music theory
-Exploring musical timbre
-Composition
-Extending musical skills to the larger world community
Keyboards are a powerful tool for empowering emerging music learners. They are also a powerful tool for students to see visually the way Math and Science connect to music. This keyboard lab will be a powerful way to fill out the instrumentarium of our school, and will be a vital tool from kindergarten all the way to 5th grade. Thanks.
