My Students

My goal for my fifth graders is give them the knowledge and skills to prepare them for not only middle school, but also to assure they are college and career ready! A skill as simple as typing has been forgotten and is no longer on the priority list. With keyboards in my classroom, this can change.

My fifth grade students are inquisitive and curious about all subjects.

They are a melting pot of many cultures from around the world and truly appreciate the differences each brings to the classroom. They thrive on math and science and are also creative and athletic.

My Project

The presence of tablets in the classroom has greatly improved learning and has given my students access to many aspects of our curriculum. Unfortunately, publishing their own writing and research has been hindered because they do not have keyboards for use and rely on the touch screen. This does not give them the opportunity to gain the typing skills they will need in the future. With these keyboards, they will be able to work on publishing creative writing pieces and can also document their research in science and social studies.

In conferencing with middle school teachers that our students will have next year, the only suggestion they had for us to better prepare our students was to teach them typing skills.

With the presence of these keyboards in our classroom, our students will be better prepared for not only middle school, but for college and their careers.
