Keva Blocks: Visual/Spacial Thinking & Rube Goldberg Marble Runs

My Project

KEVA Blocks offer middle school students a dynamic platform for fostering creativity, enhancing visual-spatial thinking, and honing design skills. In today's educational landscape, nurturing these abilities is crucial for students to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. KEVA Blocks provide an open-ended, hands-on approach to learning, allowing students to explore, experiment, and construct without limitations. By manipulating blocks of uniform size and shape, students engage in a tactile experience that stimulates their imagination and encourages them to think critically about structure and form. Paired with regular and magnetic marbles, students' creativity is catalyzed to design and create unique physics-in-action structures through a Rube Goldberg style marble run.

KEVA Blocks empower students to think outside the box and approach problems from multiple perspectives.

As they construct various structures and designs, they learn to visualize spatial relationships and understand how different components fit together. This spatial awareness is not only fundamental to fields like architecture and engineering, but also cultivates a deeper understanding of mathematics and geometry. By grappling with concepts such as balance, symmetry, proportion, and physics students develop a holistic appreciation for the principles underlying design and construction.

I want to use KEVA blocks for my students who struggle in seeing things visually and spatially as well as pairing them with regular and magnetic marbles for teams of students to create their own Rube Goldberg style marble run. These materials and resources requested will help students with the practice of seeing something 2D and creating it 3D. Along with this opportunity of scaffolding and differentiated instructional opportunities in STEM class, the same magnetic marbles, and regular marbles will be used for students to apply physics and engineering design principles to create their own Rube Goldberg style marble run.
