My Students

I teach art at an elementary school located in South Carolina. My students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. The school is a Title One school with many of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. This year we have five fifth grade classes with twenty five to thirty students per class.

My students are creative, energetic, and active learners.

They love coming to art class because of the project based learning environment. They enjoy exploring new art materials that let them express their individuality.

My Project

Every year our fifth graders create a legacy project to leave their mark on the school. This year they chose to create an inspirational rock garden with work tables for our art courtyard. Students will be working in accordance with the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards for Visual Arts by creating artwork using a variety of materials, techniques, and processes.

Each fifth grade student will paint a rock with an inspirational word or quote for underclassman.

In addition to the rock garden students will use recycled materials to create four mosaic work tables for the courtyard. Your donations will enable the students to explore their creativity and give back to their community.
