Keeping Young Minds Alert With Flexible Seating

Help me give my students flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.

I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.

They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.

My Project

Flexible seating helps keep young minds more alert and focused. It's no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. An uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused, and productive. As one teacher said, "There is no better way to show your support for a student-centered classroom, than creating a classroom from a child’s point of view." In her opinion, comfortable students are engaged students. Flex seating sharpens higher-order thinking skills, like emotional and problem-solving skills and conflict resolution. After all, taking turns requires patience. Many flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD, and ASD. Flexible seating helps make learning fun. A more active, engaged, enthusiastic, and relaxed room of students!
