Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My special needs students are diverse, determined, and driven. My students are from Chicago and come from hard-working and loving parents. However, their neighborhood is a high crime poverty area. My school has a 90% poverty rate. Several of my students speak a different language at home.
Every child at my school receives free lunch.
My students may come from a single parent in the home, or not knowing where their next meal is coming from, but they are eager to learn. Many of my students lack the essentials, such as comfortable shirts or warm hoodies for school.
My Project
As a teacher who truly cares about her students, it is my wish to provide them with at least a small portion of essential clothing to wear to school. When I ask some of my students why they don’t wear warm clothing, they will say that their caregiver cannot afford extra clothing. At times, other students will explain that their family is only able to obtain the necessary items such as paying the rent, bills, and buying food. Your generous donation will mean that a child will have a clean shirt or a warm hoodie to come to school to learn.
Every child deserves to have essentials for living.
It breaks my heart to witness them shivering from the cold Chicago weather which is unpredictable. I will be able to provide warm Columbia fleece hoodies to students who need them. I will also distribute the polo shirts to students that are in need of new ones. With your help, at least some of my students will get what are really bare essentials for most of us.
