My Students
We are a school focused on literacy, full of student readers who need to be inspired to move beyond their "reading rut" and explore the world of literature. We live in a rural area, and most of the students come from a small town. That means we have a wonderful community, but one that is not representative of the world my students will be navigating after high school.
I want to show my students what the rest of the world, has to offer them- to let them "walk around" in someone else's skin for a while.
Building a classroom library full of high-interest, diverse, quality books is my goal. They enjoy reading and thinking about things that challenge their concept of the world, which is what education is all about! Help me provide that for them.
My Project
As an educator, I don't have a budget for classroom reading materials; however, I see developing a love of reading as one of the best and most important parts of my job. My goal as a teacher is to help every single student find "that book," the book that makes them a reader.
Funding this project will make it easier for me and my students to create a community of readers.
Because of my limited resources, I am often left buying whatever books I can find at thrift stores and garage sales. One of the consequences is that I don't have a lot of "full" series- I'm left with the bits and pieces I can find. This project will allow me to fill in the gaps to existing series and add completely new materials, too.
