Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten in a Title I school in a high need area. We have over 80% of our students on free or reduced lunch. Due to the budget cuts our school has very limited resources available to our students and our teachers.

My students LOVE technology.

They ask everyday to "play" on the computer or go to the SMART board room that we share with 99 other teachers. Technology is our most important resource and teaching tool. My students are curious and excited learners without the opportunity to put their enthusiasm to work.

My Project

Our class needs one iPad to help our readers to become more motivated. They will use this iPad for flashcards, stories, basic phonics, reading short stories and so much more. We will use this iPad in small groups and for class stories to help show how technology can inspire us.

This project is important because I feel many students can be frightened looking at a book and words that may confuse them, while students see technology in a different light.

They are typically excited about it and willing to experiment. Therefore this iPad may help some students come out of their shell and read more.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
