Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a mix of every race, religion, culture, family type, income, learning type, interests, and strengths and weaknesses. The one thing they all have in common is their love for learning, their competitive nature, and the way they strive for excellence in all that they do.
Our school has more than 5 different native languages and is about 20% refugee and immigrant populations.
Over 98% of our students' family incomes qualify them for free school lunches and all students get free breakfast in the classroom each morning.
My Project
These materials will help students throughout the school stay healthy and safe during this winter season and as we continue through this pandemic. They will be shared across campus as far as we can spread them. Students will see that we value their health, comfort, and safety. Clorox wipes and Microban will help us to disinfect surfaces. Hand sanitizer will ensure the cleanliness of our hands between classroom activities. Tissues will help students stay in class instead of heading to the bathroom for toilet paper and make sure germs don't end up on clothing or surfaces when they have nothing else to wipe their nose with.
Without students bringing in tissue donations or teachers paying out of their own pocket, student use napkins from the spork packages or go to the bathroom for toilet paper to blow their noses.
With a lack of custodial staff, our rooms are not able to be sanitized every night. These supplies would help teachers across campus to sanitize their classrooms themselves.
