Students are genuinely excited to read and look forward to having the opportunity to choose books that match their interests. Having a wider variety of titles has made it easier for students to find something that grabs their attention, which is especially important for students who may not have thought of themselves as readers before.\r\n\r\nThese books are helping students build important reading skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, making inferences, identifying theme, and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text. Just as importantly, students are practicing the habits that help them become stronger independent readers: choosing an appropriate book, sticking with a longer text, talking about what they are reading, and discovering the types of books and authors they enjoy.\r\n\r\nReading in our classrooms now feels like something students get to do rather than something they have to do. During independent reading time, students settle in with books they selected themselves, recommend titles to classmates, and are already keeping an eye on books they want to read next. It has been especially exciting to see students who are usually more hesitant about reading become interested when they realize how many different choices are available to them.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us begin the school year by building excitement around reading and giving our 6th graders more opportunities to see themselves as readers. We are so grateful to have these books in students' hands and can't wait to see how their confidence, skills, and love of reading continue to grow throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1773942001604,"projectUrl":"project/we-like-to-read-good-books/10155429/","projectTitle":"We Like to Read Good Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1483489_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1537238631363","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-johnson6thgrade"},{"teacherId":8655846,"projectId":9631877,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support and for purchasing materials for our kindergarten classroom. With the use of manipulatives, counting tools, games, and learning activities, students are building stronger number recognition, counting, sorting, patterning, and problem-solving skills every day.\r\n\r\nOur kindergarteners are more confident participating in math activities and are showing great growth in their understanding of basic math concepts.
