My students need safety glasses to perform labs in biology and a pocket holder for storage as well as lens cleaning station to sanitize after each use.
I am a 9th grade teacher in Pearland, Texas. I currently teach 139 students in my Biology class everyday. Our students have a southern rural mentality next to the sprawling city of Houston. My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds and we do serve the highest population of Special Education as well as English Language Learners in our district. Traditions at our school run strong and with a student body of over 3000 students, I want to share a love of science and Biology to all incoming freshmen. More science electives are being offered next year due to the increase in interest such as Forensics, Anatomy, Aquatic Science, Environmental as well as AP courses. With this push I want to be able to spark my students interest early on.
We are required to provide eye protection when conducting labs in Biology. As a science class, we perform labs every 2 weeks and worrying about whether I have enough safety glasses for all of my students can become a constant struggle. As of now we have 23 safety glasses and I normally have around 25-30 students. This causes students to either have to wait and share or leave the classroom to borrow some from another teacher. For a science class, safety equipment is essential and with this donation, my students can all focus on participating and exploring without the added distractions of not having eye protection.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
