Keeping the Classroom Interesting!

Help me give my students with disabilities the basic classroom supplies that support their individual needs in the areas of focus, sensory opportunities and reinforcement items for their incentive programs.

My Project

The students I serve live in small, rural communities that are close-knit on the island of Maui. Our school is a beautiful, community where everyone knows each other and everyone watches out for one another. Unfortunately, our small rural community is not immune to the hardships that the rest of the world faces, including financial hardships. Majority of our student qualify for free or reduced lunches, making us a Title I school. We have a steady flow of families who move in and out of our school regularly throughout the school year because they are transitioning in and out of multi-generational family homes as well as the womanʻs shelter in our neighborhood.

With this project, I would like to buy basic special education classroom supplies like rewards that are sensory in nature as part of on going incentive systems, art materials, basic writing tools (pencils), as well as other sensory items that can be used both independently and in small play groups to help our most vulnerable students who come into our class with little to no possessions let alone school supplies or sensory materials.

I also have added a couple of simple floor furniture for students to work on their projects on the floor as the legs on our current floor work tables are starting to give out. Many students who fidget and need movement enjoy working on the floor.

It is my hope to make the transitions these students face as smooth as possible by being able to give any student in need these simple items without hesitation. These shared classroom supplies will benefit all the students in my class.
