My students need visual arts books, flexible seating ottomans from ERC4KIDS as well as a classroom chime and organizational files and pencil holders to help further their ability to use arts integration strategies in the classroom.
This past year I have worked with some of the most creative, dedicated, motivated, strong-willed, bright, funny, loving, athletic, learning disabled, and high energy students who have come from every background and socioeconomic status imaginable. We both have walked into a new one of a kind educational institution not only focused on rigorous academics but also the importance of the arts! The arts is something that has become lost throughout so many of our schools. This school is focused to not only keep the arts alive but also to use the arts as a way to implement and teach the rigorous academics our students now face.
There is no one right way to learn!
We are all so different in such a multitude of ways, but we all have one common goal and that is to get our "brains big" so we can be the absolute best that we can be! This is my daily motto and belief that I remind my students every day. They walk into my class knowing the high expectations set and understand that no matter where they came from I am going to do whatever it takes to help them be successful!
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference in guiding the way my students are able to learn. They will provide them with the necessary tools to help them continue incorporating arts strategies into their daily instruction and curricular lessons.
Arts integration is a huge part of how my students learn and deepen their understanding of their academic content.
We are a relatively newer school but do not have very large classrooms. We have 26 students in each class and in order to practice and facilitate our arts strategies, my students need to be able to create as much extra space for themselves and peers in order to perform these tasks. We are constantly moving our desks and chairs, to the sides of our room so that we have more space to work together. This transition can be time-consuming and not always the most manageable with 26 third graders. The chime as well as having these ERC4KIDS ottomans, file organizers, Iris math resource boxes and pencil holders for their clipboards the kids could easily move and group themselves anywhere around the room for any of their academic and art needs. These materials are all very functional and will provide my students with extra efficiency when transitioning from tasks. The ottomans are also the perfect height to be used as chairs for some of our flexible seating desks.
The art books will be incredibly useful in teaching my students about how to think deeply and critically about pictures and paintings from a variety of settings and historical time periods. They will be great for our art strategy called VTS (Visual Thinking Strategy) in which we facilitate how students can look at art piece in great depth and detail and have meaningful discourse about the story of the picture.
