Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Educating young people about the world around them is essential. My students do not have access to a magazines or other non-fiction texts that can keep them up to date on current events.

My students all come from low income homes and all qualify for free lunch.

Most of their reading background includes fiction. When kids enter 3rd grade they transition make a huge transition. They go from learning to read to reading for information. However my students face a greater challenge because they have to learn information in their second language.

My Project

Receiving TIME for KIDS, a magazine weekly would be life changing for these students! Their lives will be filled with information and they will be able to make a connection to the real world. They will learn about current events while reading at their grade level. They will learn about nonfiction features. My ESL students will benefit from the colorful photos and maps, and charts and graphs. These magazines are highly interactive and will allow my students the opportunity to be exposed to real world events.

We all want young people to grow up as caring individuals.

Kids need know about the world around them in order to care about it. Access to this weekly magazine will also provide much needed practice with reading and writing.
