“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” ― Aldous Huxley.
I teach choir, band, piano lab and music appreciation to a population of very intelligent and talented students.
The majority of students come from low-income households. They also come from culturally diverse backgrounds and face challenges on a day to day basis in their communities.
I would like my students to continue to be provided the opportunity to receive the best music education possible! The music classroom needs to be a comfortable place. It needs to be engaging, current and innovative in order for them to experience music to its best capacity.
My Project
My students are in need of Drumsticks, Mallets, and Clarinet Reeds.
My students are currently practicing on broken and torn drum sticks and mallets!
New band materials and equipment have not been purchased for our school in years. My clarinet players are also in desperate need of reeds and cleaning swabs. They have progressed greatly since the beginning of the school year, and I would like them to continue to be able to progress without their progress being halted, due to lack of funds and materials.
I have also been getting new students added to my band class every couple of weeks and I don't have enough materials to accommodate my students' needs and interests. Due to our school district’s financial budget, new materials for my students have not been able to be purchased this year. Currently, we are trying our best to prepare for our December 2018 concert with the torn materials that we currently have.
