Keeping Our Floor Clean

Help me give my students a cordless stick vacuum to help keep the areas of our classroom where we sit during the day clean.

My Students

As teachers in an inclusion class in a Title I school, my co-teacher and I have students that face many challenges daily. These challenges can range from not knowing who is going to pick them up from school that day to not having someone home to help them with their homework. Some students come to school hungry and without supplies. Inclusion also means teaching students with and without special needs (students with and without IEPs). These special needs can include specific learning disabled, autism, other health impairments, and cerebral palsy.

If you were to walk into our "inclusion" classroom, you would not be able to tell which students have special needs and which do not.

They all have unique and special needs that we need to meet.

We consider each child as an individual with unique needs. We teach the whole child. We meet each pupil where they are emotionally, behaviorally, socially, and educationally to help them succeed to their highest potential.

My Project

A few years ago I decided to go full on flexible seating. I decided to get rid of all of my desks, table and most of my chairs. I have a large carpet in the front of my classroom that is the center of our learning. All of our whole group lessons take place on this carpet. When students are working independently, they have the opportunity to move around and work where ever they feel is comfortable to them.

Having our own stick vacuum will allow us to keep our carpet and floor clean throughout the day.

We will not need to rely on our custodians to come and clean up the messes we make.

As first graders that have fun crafty teachers, sometimes we made big messes while we are learning! Especially if we are using glitter!! We like to use food when ever possible too. Leaving crumbs on the floor in our building always bring ANTS! This vacuum will allow us to clean up messes before the ants have a chance to arrive.

Keeping a clean floor is important since we sit on it all day.
