My students need two traditional microscopes, and three USB microscopes. This will allow them to experience the excitement of microscopes in small groups instead of large groups.
Can you imagine a middle school science classroom without labs? I can't! Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find the funding to create amazing lab experiences for my students. I teach in a very low income middle school, and often times, the funding that I do have goes towards basics for my students, such as pencils, paper, and notebooks.
Every child deserves to have an engaging, enthralling experience in their science classroom.
I believe that my students are capable of becoming incredible problem solvers, and it is my mission to ensnare the imaginations of as many future scientists as I can. Some of my students face great personal struggles, and it can be difficult to engage them. We love anything interactive and experimental!
My Project
My classroom's microscopes are very old and slowly falling apart. We are now down to three functioning microscopes. Adding two additional traditional classroom microscopes will allow the students to use the microscopes in smaller groups.
This means each child will be able to spend more time looking through the eyepiece.
We also would love to have three USB microscopes. The USB microscopes are less powerful than a traditional microscope, but they are a cost effective way to increase each child's exposure. They can be plugged into a computer, which means several children can easily view the magnified image. This makes the USB microscopes ideal for small group work, or quick observations. These microscopes are cost effective and durable enough to be used for potentially "messy" investigations, such as testing pond water and viewing water samples under a microscope.
