Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As our kindergarten and first-grade school community continues to grow we have identified a pressing need for improved food storage in our facilities. Currently, we face challenges in safely storing perishable items and providing diverse, healthy snack options for our students. To address these concerns, we propose the installation of a refrigerator within the school building. By incorporating a refrigerator into our school environment, we aim to create a multidimensional educational experience beyond the traditional classroom setting.

The primary objectives of introducing a refrigerator to our Annex building are to enhance food safety, promote healthy eating habits among our young learners, and facilitate preparing and storing meals for special events and activities.

This addition aligns with our commitment to providing a well-rounded and supportive learning environment for our kindergarten and first-grade students. It ensures the freshness and safety of perishable food items, supports the provision of healthy snacks, accommodates special dietary needs, and enhances the overall efficiency of meal preparation for various school activities.

Additionally, this proposal addresses the practical need for improved food storage and presents an exciting opportunity to seamlessly integrate the refrigerator into our kindergarten and first-grade science curriculum. These lessons include observing and classifying different food items. We can introduce the concept of temperature by discussing how the refrigerator keeps food cool, along with exploring the science behind food preservation and how a refrigerator helps to keep food fresh. We can discuss microorganisms and decay by conducting simple experiments showing the effects of temperature on the growth of mold on food. Ever wondered how water freezes? This too can be explored with the addition of a refrigerator to our building.

We look forward to the positive impact the addition of a refrigerator will have on our kindergarten and first-grade community.
