Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are some of the brightest in Rhode Island. They have overcome the odds and adversity they face every day at home to show the naysayers in Rhode Island that kids from the inner city CAN and WILL learn when given the opportunity and the right tools to succeed.
In this school, our students and teachers care for each other deeply, and it shows through their interactions both inside the classroom and out.
We are a school that celebrates all cultures, ways of life, and individual experiences. Providence is a melting pot of diversity, and we choose to embrace the differences. Our classrooms are constantly engaged in discourse and celebrating each other.
My Project
This year is stated to be one of the coldest winters in a long time and there are scholars that do not have sufficient outerwear. The items in my basket will go to help scholars that need appropriate outerwear to get through the winter.
Last year teachers purchased several coats for scholars needing coats to get through the winter.
Most of our scholars are from low-income households where parents have to choose what is most important, and what can wait a little longer. Just this morning, in November, there were kids walking off the bus with blankets wrapped around them. Last year, we could not reach every family. For this year, we are using Donors Choose to expand the number of kids we can support in having a cozy winter.
