My students are energetic, eager to learn, and fun-loving. Despite some tough situations some of my students face at home, they come in every day really giving it their all. At our school, 100% of our students receive a free breakfast and lunch. Coming from an urban district and a Title I school, unfortunately my students do not have as many supplies and opportunities as the surrounding districts.
"The need for imagination, as a sense of truth, and as a feeling of responsibility — these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education." - Rudolf Steiner
For this reason, I work extra hard to raise money for supplies that will be used by my students. These supplies benefit my students in so many ways, and it also teaches them a deeper lesson of how good the world can be. Over the years when I have told my students that we have gotten a project funded and we were getting supplies, the looks on their faces were priceless. My students are so appreciative, and donations from kind-hearted people really impact their lives in such a major way!
Recess is one of my students’ favorite times of the day. They love to play outside on the blacktop. Cooperative play is essential for students to learn how to get along with each other and to work together as a community. Currently, we have only blacktop space available for outdoor recess, so I’m hoping to purchase outdoor play materials such as balls, chalk, and outdoor games for the children to play during recess.
“When we make play the foundation of learning, we teach the whole child."~ Vince Gowmon
In addition to providing my students with some materials for outdoor recess I would also like some disinfecting wipes because flu season is right around the corner!
