Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I truly believe my terrific, inquisitive 3rd graders are capable of reaching their academic goals. I love seeing their faces light up as they learn new math, science, and literacy skills.
My students live in and attend school in a high poverty area and many come from single parent families who can't afford life essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter.
At our school, 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Despite the challenges of poverty, they arrive at school eager and ready for the day's lessons and projects.
My Project
By having a subscription to Scholastic News, Science Spin, and Geography Spin, the world will open up and expand for my students. They will be able to read and enjoy expository text as they learn about science and social studies topics. They can take this knowledge and resource to create interesting science and social studies writing pieces. Best of all they can build their own personal magazine library to share with their family. Their eyes will light up each time they receive a magazine issue! My students also need nameplates so they can easily find their desk, see the cursive alphabet, and have math tools at their fingertips.
Having a Scholastic News, Science, and Social Studies subscription will enhance and enrich my students reading, comprehension, and writing skills.
These magazines will expand their knowledge of the world around them and sharpen their writing skills as they retell their newly gained knowledge. These resources may even inspire students to become scientists!
