Do you remember your home economics or family and consumer science course from your school years? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for the first bells of the school day. My students share that same joy and excitement in My students have passion, drive, curiosity, and commitment to their education.
Students in my school strive to be their best selves, with this project we can make a positive impact on personal hygiene and cleanliness.
As growing teenagers and young adults, family and consumer science courses are so important to my students and are truly valued. I am the family and consumer sciences teacher in a low income school district. Our school's family and consumer science program have become a root in our community. Many of my students and students in our district come from households with different family situations. Through this project new laundering equipment that would be used in a laboratory classroom kitchen, as well as for students in need. Each day students plead for the opportunity to demonstrate their skill sets in their classrooms so we want to make sure they are well equipt to be the best they can be.
My Project
The need for practicing good hygiene is a must for students. Especially when it comes to focus and ability to concentrate in the classroom. Through the partnership with our school administration, guidance counselor, student leadership organizations and our family and consumer sciences department I would teach students in the junior high and high school grades practical life skills so that they could take care of their own personal needs. Through obtaining a washer and dryer stackable set students will be able to utilize these facilities while learning the practical life skills. Being able to wash their own clothes will result in increased self-esteem which will result in increased independence inside and outside the school environment.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement through promoting proper hygiene practices.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their clothes will be clean enough to wear the next day or what they would do in the event of an accident. Also, students in our family and consumer science courses will be better able to learn hands on skills and independence. Our students have various needs within our school and community so they will be able to meet those needs as students. Plus in today's society the importance of equality and independence has become a major focus of our youth and also guiding our youth.
