Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright and creative young city kids. They have had art in their school for 6 years now, and they have displayed so much talent and promise in their newly acquired skills. No matter what life hands them, my students still put their best effort forth. All students, no matter what their background or where they live, deserve an equitable chance at education and access to the best art education!
It breaks my heart that some of my students do not have the supplies they need at home to be creative during this time of social distancing.
Now more than ever, the inequity amongst districts and students is evident as more affluent districts are able to remotely teach. The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic status households and do not have access to the supplies or learning resources as some other students do.
These kids are bright, creative, and excited to learn more in the arts. I want to be able to still inspire my students to create even if it’s through a computer. They are stronger than they know and deserve so much more than they are handed.
My Project
I am asking for 200 watercolor sets to distribute to my students during this time of self-quarantine. I miss my kids, and I miss teaching them art. It's only been two weeks so far, but it feels like forever. I can only imagine what they are feeling and experiencing and even what they miss most about school.
I want my students to be able to still experiment and explore their creativity during their time stuck in the house, all while adding a little color to their lives and using the healing power of art!
The sets have everything they need; paper, watercolor set, and brushes, in order to create art at home.
