My Students

My students are enthusiastic, collaborative, and caring! I currently have 21 students in my class, and they inspire me each and every day with their eager curiosity and perseverance.

I teach in an urban neighborhood.

Our school is a neighborhood elementary school, and our families are culturally diverse. They come from countries all over the world. We are challenged with high poverty and high needs. Many of our students struggle academically and require extra support in fundamentals.

My Project

We know that learning in person is best! We are currently in a hybrid plan in my school district. This means half of my class comes to school on Mondays and Thursdays and the other half of my class comes Tuesdays and Fridays. This keeps our numbers down and we can socially distance and continue learning in school. This is the best-case scenario given our circumstances. But, it also means that I am doing two jobs in one to meet my student's needs. I am teaching in-person and creating lessons for my students to do at home on their remote days. This is twice the planning of a typical year.

My first graders are using Seesaw as a platform for remote learning.

This platform is very kid-friendly and engaging, but the lessons take a long time to create or modify. Luckily, there are many gifted and tech-savvy educators who have been busy creating remote lessons and posting them for purchase on Teachers Pay Teachers. I am requesting gift cards for TPT so that I can buy and modify lessons that have already been created for young learners. This will definitely help to make planning more doable during this very difficult time!
