I love questions like this because I turn into that "parent" who was just asked to show pictures of their kids. I am that proud "mama" with regards to my students.
My students are wonderfully awesome for so many reasons.
I teach at the oldset, and still the best HS in our city It truly is a melting pot of diversity while being classified as a Title I school. I have been teaching here for just over 8 years and am just as excited to come to work everyday as ever because my students make my days fun.
In my years of teaching I have realized that my niche is with the students that get classified as "on-level" students. As a result of the various labels placed on them often times these students are held to lower expectations than what people would classify as an "advanced" student. I love my students because I see them break these molds EVERYDAY! The sheer grit that my students have is definitely something to be proud of. They are not afraid to take on challenges and it is something beyond words to watch them succeed and surprise themselves in the process!
As we know, it is getting harder and harder to keep our current student engaged in lessons without the help of modern technology. Most students come to class with their technology glued to their hands. The best teachers will not fight this "losing" battle of removing it from class but, instead, find a way to use it towards the benefit of the learning process. Effective use of technology is something that the students need help learning and is beneficial in preparing them for college and career readiness. Even though most students have access to technology, there are still a few that do not. I would love to have a couple Chromebooks available in my classroom for those students that do not have access to the technology being used in classrooms.
