This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students intimately know all too well the challenges our community is facing due to poverty and inflation. My students are engaged, excited, and ready to roll up their sleeves and help to rebuild our school community through service. Our classroom is a safe space to be who you are and to ask for what you need. Help me to provide students a bit of help without any shame for basic life necessities for our students battling homelessness.
With our homeless/displaced student population rising by the day, we have to support kids who walk through our doors every day.
One of the biggest reasons students try to come to school is because they know they will be warm, fed, and cared for in a crisis. High school is hard enough, and if a student comes through our door, we want to try to help them keep going in whatever way possible. We maintain an emergency food pantry for all students to pull from at any time. We also send home food, hygiene and warm clothes with students that do not have any at home. Help us to support students in their journey through life and the shame of need. We can all do a little something to make a student at their worst moment feel cared for and safe. We can feed the hungry, clothe the cold and keep kids clean!
