This year I am teaching the English portion of a fourth grade 50/50 dual language immersion program. I teach two different classes each day. Each class receives half of their daily instruction in Spanish while I teach the other half of their day in English. I have the privilege this year to work with two wonderful groups of kids.
All of them possess their own set of intellectual, physical, linguistic, and sensory strengths/needs but together, they have developed into two very hardworking, resilient, and creative classes of fourth graders.
This year, I hope to continue helping them discover their best selves and excel academically.
My students are already very cool kids but unfortunately, my classroom's position in the building leaves the room temperature about 6-8 degrees hotter than it is outdoors. On top of this, our old building doesn't have the best ventilation either. I have been told too many times things like, "Mr. Robinson, I feel like I'm always sneezing when I come to class" or "I can't its just too hot!" While there may always be time for a mini-lesson on perseverance, I put a lot of focus into making my classroom a pleasant place to be.
My students are making valid claims about their needs not being met; They deserve to feel good entering the room in which they will learn.
Funding my project will give my students a learning environment in which they enjoy being in when it is hot outside and cleaner air to keep them from getting sick and missing class during the colder months. Thanks for donating or just spreading the word.
