I work in a Title I school that is highly impacted by poverty where the student's academic success is lower than that of surrounding schools not impacted by poverty. The students I teach are sweet, have a great desire to learn, and are hungry for success. They love to get their hands on tools and resources that help them learn. The school has a high percentage of English language learners.
The karaoke machine, that I would like to add to my classroom will help my students develop a better sense of internal beat and keep the school instruments functioning.
My school just became an arts-centered school one year ago. As part of that, every student in 4th-6th grade plays an instrument in the school band. My students love playing their instruments and look forward to coming to the band every day. Some of my students have told me that they come to school every day because they look forward to the band.
Making music has already had some tremendous impacts on my students' lives this year. As my program is just emerging, I am looking for more ways to engage my students through the use of technology and other resources to help improve the quality of their education. I am also looking to keep their instruments in the best working condition with repair items so they last for many years to come.
