Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In this time of uncertainty my students are still voracious readers. Adhering to COVID regulations they can browse for their favorite titles and series in my library after sanitizing. Even though I promote ebooks, they still want the physical book in their hands. I am the K-12 librarian and have had to implement a self-service checkout system in my high school library. They have quickly learned how to utilize the circulation system on their own, after which they always pick out a new bookmark. I will do whatever it takes to keep them reading.

My Project

My students want to keep coming to the library and in these uncertain times we have to do what we can to accommodate them. I have created a self-service island for them to check out their own books, with a computer, barcode scanner, book marks, date due stamp, and of course hand sanitizer.

A receipt printer would be one step closer to fewer surfaces being touched by allowing the students to take their receipt with no need to stamp their book.

It could also work as a bookmark. I want to keep them coming to my library as long as possible by anticipating issues such as high touch areas.
