This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is designed to supply materials to our very deserving students so that they might have an equitable high school experience in their arts classrooms. All of our students receive free or reduced lunch, and many of our students are new to the country and are placed in art classes upon first arrival as art is seen as a universal visual language.

Students at our school are talented and creative individuals who deserve access to the same materials as those in wealthier districts.

When given access to these materials, our students have been capable of great things. Just last year, my painting students received a full scholarship to the Hartford Art School summer program, and others achieved college level credits through the AP Art Portfolio submission process, all completed with these quality materials . Without access to these materials, students who are capable of these feats would not be able to show their skill in an equal way to those they are competing against nationally for opportunities in higher education and access.

This project requests basic needs for our Painting class here at H. Public High School. The students would use the canvas and paint in addition to the brushes we have been maintaining here at school to create new works of art that they can feature in portfolios and submit for scholarships and awards. Without your help, we might not have the basic materials needed to have a substantial Painting experience for those taking the course. Students need these experiences to grow, as we know there is no substitute for experience. Thank you for your generosity and for offering this access to our greatly deserving students!
